Here is the diptych that Stephanie and I came up with. I must admit. Her photo is pretty darn amazing. TOTALLY makes me want to go somewhere sunny and sandy!! And the composition of it is just FANTASTIC!!!

Marcy and I have been trying to get together for a while so she could have some updated headshots but the weather really was working against us. Between snow, rain, and really cold temperatures, we just couldn’t catch a break. But Marcy hung in there and we got some really great pictures on Saturday in Fisher Park as well as Downtown Greensboro. We did have to brave the wind which, at times, threatened to blow us all the way to Kansas, but it was warm and gorgeous as was Marcy and I feel like it’s totally represented in these pics.

Marcy is very cool, laid back, hip, funky, fashionable, and doesn’t mince words. I really dig her! And, while I hate to choose favorites, my FAVE shot is the first one in the set!!! There are a lot more than these for Marcy to use I am just giving you a teensy taste!

How was your Valentine’s Day? Confession: My hubby and I don’t really celebrate this holiday. Our anniversary is on the 7th so we’ve already gone out to a romantic dinner a week before. BUT he did send me flowers today which was very sweet and unexpected. I hope your sweetie showed you some love and affection today!

And because no blog post would be the same without a photo, I will leave you to enjoy this one I took of my son earlier in the month.

But back to the reason for this post. Last November I entered an image competition being sponsored by the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP). It is a group that I have been a member of since 2009 and they take the business of Child Photography very seriously. Anyway, I entered their competition in December of 2010 and had to wait two long months to find out whether I had even scored well enough to receive an honorable mention. Well, on February 7, 2011 the winners were announced and I won first place in the Tweens Category for this image:

Anyone who knows me is well acquainted with the fact that I DO NOT like to toot my own horn.  It is something that I just don’t usually do so, please forgive me for doing it today.  This was just too exciting to keep to myself.  And you know what?  I am not going to lie. It was INCREDIBLY exciting to read my name among some of the top photographers in the world!! And to know that this was won solely on merit almost made me have a Sally Field Oscar moment, “You like me!!!! You really like me!!!” (see there I go again….)

And because no post would be complete without a picture, especially one about babies, here are a couple of my faves to share with you. I love sleeping babies. They just look so peaceful!!

I took a picture of my most favorite shoes in the world, my black and white Chuck Taylor knockoffs from Target. How do I love these shoes? Let me count the ways!! Seriously though, I wear them ALL the time and will be so sad when they finally give out on me. Stephanie took a much more appetizing approach by photographing a cupcake from a family recipe that she is generously sharing on her blog. So be sure to check it out at the link above!! Doesn’t that cupcake look amazing! I could go for one right now paired with a nice tall glass of milk. Mmmmm good!

At the Triad SmugMug Meetups, we get together and listen to speakers talk to us about various topics. The meetings are sponsored by SmugMug and happen once a month. This month was the official launch of our group and Dawn came in to speak to us about “Investing in Our Clients”.

Isn’t she just as cute as she can be? She was incredibly entertaining and held the attention of everyone in the room.

We laughed, many times, at the various anecdotes that she shared with us and listened intently as she gave some very sound advice on dealing with clients.

We gave away prizes from our generous sponsors, too. Bay Photo, the most rockin’ lab on the planet, donated four $50 gift certificates!! I love Bay Photo, their quality is unbeatable! Andrea Halsey, another local photographer whom I feel quite happy to be able to call “friend”, donated her app for photographers called “iProofPro” for the iPad. All in all, it really was an amazing evening. Our group is full of some wonderful people and I can’t wait to get to know them all better. I was really thrilled by the turnout and hope that the next meetup is just as well received. In October we’re going to be joined by a local marketing guru, Jeff SanGeorge, the owner of Connect Marketing and Design. I will be announcing the date soon, so please stay tuned for that!

It’s hard to imagine but, I hadn’t taken a vacation at the beach in three years. We have been spending time visiting family and taking trips to Disney World instead. One of the thoughts that crossed my mind was, “Man, I wish I could do a family shoot at the beach!” Well, guess what? I got to do exactly that. We met an awesome family that was staying in the house next to ours. They happened to be from Cary which isn’t too far from Greensboro. Our boys all spent quite a bit of time together and I had the great pleasure of spending time with their parents. One day as their mom, Lisa, and I were talking, she brought up the fact that they had tried to find a photographer to take their family portrait while they were there but was unsuccessful in her quest. I thought about it for a bit and went over later and offered to take their pics for them. It was incredibly serendipitous that they would need photos and I was dying to shoot some! Here are a few of my faves from that day:

This one is seriously one of my faves. I just feel like I’m really seeing their personalities in this shot!

Now, here is one I took of my niece and, hopefully, I don’t sound too braggy because I love, love, love this pic of her. She always makes very funny faces when she poses for me, which is awesome because that’s who she is. This shot just demonstrates how beautiful and adorable she is, too. LOVE IT!

All in all, we had a great time at the beach. We did a lot of fun things and met some great people, too. It’s hard to get back into the swing of things after a vacation like that! But we’re back and I’m ready to take photos for all the great clients who have contacted me for sessions in October. And this was the gorgeous sunrise that greeted us this morning from the deck at the house where we’re staying. Before photography, I didn’t know how truly beautiful the sunrise was. I LOVE taking pictures at sunrise!!

Anyway, we had a blast at this session and I couldn’t wait to come home and download all the images so I could see them!  Unfortunately, I HAD to wait.  My family had an event to attend that afternoon and the minute I got home from the photo session we had to turn around and run out to a surprise party for one of my husband’s oldest friends.  We had a great time but every once in a while my mind would drift off and wonder what the images from the morning’s session were like.  We stayed at the party late into the night so the images would have to wait until the next day.  And they were so worth the wait!  When they popped up on my screen, I was so excited and spent the next few days editing them.  This is one of my favorite sessions to date and I hope you like them, too.

The farm doesn’t show up right on Mapquest or on a GPS so we all met up at a shop in Reidsville and then drove together to the location for our morning shoot.  We arrived and immediately I was drawn in by the gorgeous landscape that surrounded us.  The weather was beautiful, too. A lovely breeze was blowing and I KNEW this was going to be an awesome shoot.

They very kindly showed me around the property (not the whole thing because there are 40 acres!!) and it was really beautiful!  We had so much fun and for now, I’m just going to share a couple to show you how much fun we had.  And HOW CUTE is this little guy???  Good grief!!!!  He had a smile that could melt the coldest heart.
