The last part of 2011 was chock full of awesome family sessions. Yesterday, you met my good friends and today I’m going to introduce you to some new ones. This family contacted me to get their holiday portraits done. They had adopted a beautiful little boy and wanted to capture him at the fun toddling stage as well as send out photos to their family and friends for Christmas. I was in awe when I saw the three of them together. It is obvious that they all share such a deep bond and their little boy completely adores them!! Here are a few of my favorites from their family photo session and I know you will love them, too!! Isn’t their little boy just too cute for words?!

It’s hard to believe that 2011 is getting ready to draw to a close. I probably say something like that every year but the older I get, the faster time seems to go by!! Now, we’re all in the throes of the holiday season and in the midst of all the holiday sessions, I somehow forgot to blog. LOL Well, I’m going to be making up for that over the next several days. First up, I’d like to introduce you to a family I met through a local preschool that I do school photos for twice a year. After this family saw the pics of their little man, they wrote and asked for a family session. Of course I was more than happy to oblige! They were so much fun!! Mom has the hippest hair on the planet and Dad was just as laidback as he could be. The boys were a lot of fun and because of their awesome personalities, we were able to capture some really fun family photos for them. Take a look at these family photos and tell me they aren’t fun as all get out!! I love photographing families, especially ones like this!

It is beyond cool to be able to watch people’s children grow up and babies whose parents signed them up on the Baby Plan are no exception. They change so much that it’s just not even funny. This recent session was for a little boy who made his entrance on Christmas Eve last year. What a gift, right?! He was a sweet, sweet baby then and he is a sweet little man now. We got together recently to photograph him for his 6-9 month pictures and wow, what a cutie he is!! He loves his bunny as you will see and makes some of the cutest faces ever. I just love his smile.

Babies. Oh how precious they are and how fast they grow! One minute they are mewing little bundles, curled up asleep on your chest. The next minute, they are sitting up on their own giving you adorable smiles! A few months ago I introduced you to this little miss. Well, recently we got together again for her 6 month photo session and she is even more adorable!! We met at her Grandmother’s home, which is unbelievably beautiful, and took some great portraits of the little lady with her parents. Here are a few of my faves from the session!

At our next appointment, Miss L will be one year old and I cannot wait to see how she has grown then! That is what is so wonderful about the Baby Plan, parents get a beautiful record of all the changes in their baby’s first year of life. How wonderful it will be to be able to look back when Miss L is starting kindergarten or even middle school to see what she was like when she was little!!

It’s a Major Award! ;)

I can’t help myself sometimes and just have to use pop culture references in my blog posts or titles. It’s FUN! In fact, if you know what I am referencing by using that title, I’d love it if you put it in the comments or emailed me!! It would be nice to know that I’m not the only one with a sense of humor like that.

But back to the reason for this post. Last November I entered an image competition being sponsored by the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP). It is a group that I have been a member of since 2009 and they take the business of Child Photography very seriously. Anyway, I entered their competition in December of 2010 and had to wait two long months to find out whether I had even scored well enough to receive an honorable mention. Well, on February 7, 2011 the winners were announced and I won first place in the Tweens Category for this image:

Anyone who knows me is well acquainted with the fact that I DO NOT like to toot my own horn. It is something that I just don’t usually do so, please forgive me for doing it today. This was just too exciting to keep to myself. And you know what? I am not going to lie. It was INCREDIBLY exciting to read my name among some of the top photographers in the world!! And to know that this was won solely on merit almost made me have a Sally Field Oscar moment, “You like me!!!! You really like me!!!” (see there I go again….)

For whatever reason, whenever the new year rolls around I get to thinking about photographing newborns. It is cliche I suppose but, it must somehow be tied in to the year being a fresh start, just like a new life is a fresh start. The beach has long been my favorite place to vacation. The smell of the salt-kissed sea air, the feeling of wet sand between my toes, being lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves…these are all things that bring me back to the beach whenever I can make it happen. This year, we took a week-long vacation at North Topsail Island, a relatively remote stretch of beach on the NC Coast and it was wonderful! My sister and her family also came with us and we had a really good time. Every day we would take strolls along the sandy beach looking for interesting sea shells and we were never disappointed. In fact, one day we came across a tremendous number of hermit crabs which was fascinating! I had never seen them anywhere but the beach supply store! Anyway, we were able to relax and enjoy each other’s company as well as watch our children go toe-to-toe with the sea on a daily basis.

It’s hard to imagine but, I hadn’t taken a vacation at the beach in three years. We have been spending time visiting family and taking trips to Disney World instead. One of the thoughts that crossed my mind was, “Man, I wish I could do a family shoot at the beach!” Well, guess what? I got to do exactly that. We met an awesome family that was staying in the house next to ours. They happened to be from Cary which isn’t too far from Greensboro. Our boys all spent quite a bit of time together and I had the great pleasure of spending time with their parents. One day as their mom, Lisa, and I were talking, she brought up the fact that they had tried to find a photographer to take their family portrait while they were there but was unsuccessful in her quest. I thought about it for a bit and went over later and offered to take their pics for them. It was incredibly serendipitous that they would need photos and I was dying to shoot some! Here are a few of my faves from that day:

This one is seriously one of my faves. I just feel like I’m really seeing their personalities in this shot!

Now, here is one I took of my niece and, hopefully, I don’t sound too braggy because I love, love, love this pic of her. She always makes very funny faces when she poses for me, which is awesome because that’s who she is. This shot just demonstrates how beautiful and adorable she is, too. LOVE IT!

All in all, we had a great time at the beach. We did a lot of fun things and met some great people, too. It’s hard to get back into the swing of things after a vacation like that! But we’re back and I’m ready to take photos for all the great clients who have contacted me for sessions in October. The spots in October are filling up fast so, if you want to be sure you get a Holiday Session before the deadline in November, please don’t delay in contacting me! I hope all is well in your world!!

Sometimes, it takes my breath away

You ever have a moment where, you hoped something turned out as well as you thought it did? That is what happened to me with my most recent session. On Labor Day weekend, I met up with a family at a beautiful location in Durham, NC called, West Point on the Eno. It’s an amazing park full of lush trees, old clapboard sided homes and buildings, plus a place where you can rent canoes and go out on the water. Truly a stunning location. Add to the mix a couple very much in love with each other and their adorable daughter and you have a recipe for a fabulous photo session. For whatever reason, the clients who come to me don’t usually have daughters. Not sure why that is but, can I just tell you how much I LOVED photographing this little girl? She was spunky, incredibly intelligent, and just lovely. She had a stuffed animal with the best. name. EVAH. Gigi Butterscotch. I’m sorry but that is hands down the best name I’ve ever heard. And she’s only 4 folks.

Anyway, we had a blast at this session and I couldn’t wait to come home and download all the images so I could see them! Unfortunately, I HAD to wait. My family had an event to attend that afternoon and the minute I got home from the photo session we had to turn around and run out to a surprise party for one of my husband’s oldest friends. We had a great time but every once in a while my mind would drift off and wonder what the images from the morning’s session were like. We stayed at the party late into the night so the images would have to wait until the next day. And they were so worth the wait! When they popped up on my screen, I was so excited and spent the next few days editing them. This is one of my favorite sessions to date and I hope you like them, too.

Down on the Farm | Greensboro Children’s Photographer

It is so much fun when a client has an idea for a location AND it works out to be a good one! The mommy of my recent subject wanted to shoot at a family friend’s farm and man, oh man, am I glad we did!

The farm doesn’t show up right on Mapquest or on a GPS so we all met up at a shop in Reidsville and then drove together to the location for our morning shoot. We arrived and immediately I was drawn in by the gorgeous landscape that surrounded us. The weather was beautiful, too. A lovely breeze was blowing and I KNEW this was going to be an awesome shoot.

They very kindly showed me around the property (not the whole thing because there are 40 acres!!) and it was really beautiful! We had so much fun and for now, I’m just going to share a couple to show you how much fun we had. And HOW CUTE is this little guy??? Good grief!!!! He had a smile that could melt the coldest heart.

This time of year is pretty amazing. It seems as though we go from having totally naked trees to seeing them in their full-blown regalia in a matter of a few days. And this time of year never fails to inspire me to get out and shoot some photos, just for myself. :) It used to be that my boys would easily oblige me and we could trek out where ever and take some photos. Not so much these days. Thankfully, I have a niece who is happy to model for me and allow me to scratch my photography itch when I feel like doing something a little bit different.

This weekend, I’m heading down to visit a friend and take some awesome photos around the charming, historic city of Savannah, GA. When I get back, I will be sure to share pics from our adventures as well as some pics from the night of the studio opening. Please have a wonderful and safe weekend and I hope the weather is beautiful where ever you are!!

Does it get any sweeter than this? | Greensboro Newborn Photographer

If it does, please don’t tell me because seriously I don’t think my heart could take it. I had a session this morning with the sweetest little boy you’ve ever seen. Had I known what was in store for me at this shoot today, I would have better prepared myself! It made me feel just a twinge of sadness that these days of cooing infants and little fingers curled around mine are far behind me. But in the same moment it hit me what a blessing it is to be able to spend time with little ones like this and capture these precious, fleeting moments for their families.

In addition to being just a bundle of cuteness and light on his own, he has such a nice, cool mom and an awesome dog named, Grace who loves him very, very much. Grace is a gorgeous Weimaraner with a huge heart and she just loves him to pieces!! She was watchful and kept her eye on me at all times. I could tell they are going to be such good friends and have fun together!

Without further adieu, here is the little man from my session this morning. Isn’t he just adorable? He was actually cooing at me when I took this shot. He was PRECIOUS!!!

Oh boy. When I prepared for my session on Monday, there was nothing I could have done to prevent me from being completely bowled over by this little boy. A 10 months old he is already a heartbreaker and his parents are going to have their hands full, let me tell you! The moment I arrived he was nothing but sweet and full of smiles. He has the most amazing temperament I have ever seen! His mom also happens to be one of the warmest and friendliest people I have ever met, too so it’s not surprise that this little boy would inherit such traits.

Having Some Fun | Evie Curley, Greensboro Children’s Photographer

As things begin to slow down a bit I like to take the time available to me to do many things. I re-evaluate how my business is going to run in the next year, what products I’m going to offer, and I take this time to play! During the year, it’s harder for me to devote time to experiementing with new ideas and locations because I’m focused on delivering prints and images to my clients. Well, this past weekend, my sister and niece were kind enough to spare some time for me to have a mini shoot in a new location as well as an old one. I also had some props that I had purchased a while back and I was curious how they would photograph as well.

I have been itching to do an urban shoot for a while and so off we went downtown to find some interesting nooks to shoot in. Here are the results of our playing:

Today I was reminded of what my boys were like when they were little. Rough and tumble, active as all get out, and into Thomas the Tank Engine! Well, young Mr. Will from this morning’s session was just like that! He ran through the whole park, dug around in the dirt, and kept making his trains go “off the tracks”. So. Stinking. Cute. You may remember the session with the three cute kiddos in red shirts and a watermelon dress. Well, this is their cousin! I have a bunch more to edit but couldn’t resist sticking this one up on the blog for the world to see. I LOVE IT! Seriously, it may be my fave from the whole session. Isn’t he gorgeous?

It made me a little bit nostalgic for the days when my oldest son would play with his Thomas and Friends trains and tracks for hours. Cherish these moment with your little ones because they really do go by so fast!

I have really been wanting to share these photos of one of my favorite families for a while but the pictures were a surprise so I had to wait. That was really, really hard for me to do because I’m quite bad at that. LOL

Anyway, I met my friends at the Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball stadium downtown and we had an absolute ball (no pun intended) down there. See, the dad of this family is a HUGE baseball fan so these pictures were perfectly located for him! Here are some pics from our out-of-this-world session!
