A Long Overdue Thank You! | Greensboro Photographer

Some days it really feels like I am blessed by having some of the most wonderful people I know in my life.  Many of them are some extremely kind people I have met on the internet.  A couple of months ago, a very sweet woman named, Heather, emailed me and asked me a few questions about photography.  I’m certainly no Ansel Adams or Annie Leibowitz, but am always happy to pass along whatever information I have gleaned through the myriad of books and websites that have been scoured on my journey to become a professional photographer.  Heather and I corresponded via email a few times and then one day, this showed up at my door:

Oh glory be. It was frozen when I first opened the box and it was sheer torture waiting for this southern delicacy to thaw out so I could enjoy a piece. Something that amazes me is, even after being born and raised in the South, there are a number of things “southern” that I have never heard of nor tasted. This Caramel Cake was one of them. When I called my mother to express my surprise at Heather’s show of gratitude, she told me that her mother used to make Caramel Cake all the time when she was a little girl. In fact, she pretty much squealed in my ear when I mentioned what kind of cake it was and demanded that I share it with her!

Once it finally thawed, my husband and I were basically drooling as we sliced through the moist, delicate layers to obtain our bounty:

Let me tell you, it is one of the moistest cakes I have ever eaten, and I’ve eaten a lot of cake. LOL Many times, bakery cakes made from scratch can be dense and dry, usually out of necessity for all the subsequent decorating that takes place. But this one had no other adornment than the scratch-made caramel frosting and the layers inside were decadently moist. The entire thing was amazing and I cannot thank Heather enough for being so incredibly kind and generous as to send this to me. My parents also extend their thanks for the walk down memory lane!

If you’re interested in trying one of these for yourself, or perhaps trying another famous Southern cake, go to www.sugarees.com and order one. I don’t make any money by recommending them. They’re just that darn good!!!

I have some other pictures to post will wait. This cake deserves a post all of its own! Have a happy weekend!
